A message from the president​​

The Vancouver Police Union, representing the over 1,450 front-line police officers, jail guards and Special Constables of the Vancouver Police Department.

We are committed to protecting and promoting the interests of our members as they serve citizens in our community.

Through our affiliations with the British Columbia Police Association (BCPA) and the Canadian Police Association (CPA) we keep up with policing issues that affect our members and the public provincially and nationally.

By doing so, we will create a safer community and improve the quality of life for all citizens.

1918
VPU Receives its Charter

The Vancouver Police Union, (VPU), received its Charter on July 15, 1918, and was established with the mandate to effectively and democratically represent its members as a bargaining unit under the British Columbia Labour Code.

1957
Pay Equity

Female officers are granted pay equity with the male co-workers.

1972
Student Liaison Officers

The VPD School Liaison Unit begins at Killarney Secondary School, which would expand to include all elementary and high schools in the city. The goals of the program are to eliminate barriers between youth and police by providing support and mentorship, to provide safety and crime prevention education, and to investigate crime.
